Djemba-Djemba to jump to Saints?

Rumours about the move emerged this morning but seemed to be a wind-up. However, STV are now reporting we are indeed trying to sign the Cameroon international, who is available on a free after leaving Partizan in December.

The 32-year-old signed for Manchester United in 2003 before moving to Aston Villa a couple of years later. He didn't really adapt to English football and went on to play in Denmark, Qatar and Israel before ending up at Serbian club Partizan in the summer. However, he played just 11 times for them before being released.

That means he probably isn't match fit. If he does sign he would presumably be providing competition for Jim Goodwin, who may end up moving back into defence.

This reminds me of 2001 when we were linked with various "big name" players - such as Bebeto, Daniel Amokachi and Ronaldinho - and signed none of them before being relegated. Let's just hope the latter part of that sentence doesn't turn out to be true.
