Dempsie Stays, Broadfoot Goes

Last updated : 10 May 2004 By Stuart Gillespie
Both players are solid defenders, with Dempsie perhaps being a bit more injury prone than most of us would like. Both came from Hibs, Broadfoot in the summer of 2002 and Dempsie in January 2003, and have both done well.

broadfoot had been set to sign a contract with the club last week before his agent topped things, obviously thinking he can get a better deal elsewhere. With Kirk only 19, the name of Kris Robertson immediately springs to my mind.

Dempsie has signed a one year deal which is good news for everyone, as he'll hopefully be able to continue the decent performances he has been making, as long as he keeps fit!

This means that there will now be at least two departures in the summer, Broadfoot and Robert Dunn. There is no word yet on John O'Neill or Stevie Woods having signed contracts, but both will probably stay. David Jack's future is unknown, whilst Chris McGroarty also looks like being on his way.

With Dunn and Broadfoot leaving, and Kevin Twaddle and Paul McKnight having left earlier in the season, that means we have at least four spaces for players, which could increase depending on the situations of Jack, McGroarty, O'Neill and Woods. With fitness coach David Murray leaving earlier in the season, it looks like we already have five spots to fill. Could former Saint Barry McLaughlin, who has been released by Kilmarnock, be Broadfoot's replacement?
