Defensive duo on trial

Last updated : 16 August 2011 By Stuart Gillespie

McGregor's recent knee injury - which has ruled him out for several months - means the Saints squad is currently a bit light for defenders, with Lee Mair, Marc McAusland and the inexperienced Dominic Kennedy the only available centre-halfs. That has forced Lennon to look for reinforcements.

It is thought one of the trialists is Scottish and the other is born in Holland. There have been suggestions that Moroccan defender Ilias Haddad has been on trial and he was at Saturday's game against Motherwell. The defender is a former team-mate of current Saints player Jeroen Tesselaar, the pair having been together at Telstar.

There is no suggestion yet as to who the Scottish player is, although there have been rumours we are after Rangers' Jordan McMillan and Hearts' Darren Barr on loan.

Whoever the trialists are, they were due to play in a bounce game against Hamilton today, which Saints won 4-3. Jon McShane bagged a hat-trick with Graham Carey also scoring.
