Dayan Deal Dead

Last updated : 08 August 2007 By Stuart Gillespie
Reports all summer seemed to indicate that Dayan was a free agent and Saints could sign him for nothing. However, reports in the past 24 hours suggest they have now decided they want 400,000 euros for the player - around £270,000! So desperate is Dayan to move that he offered to pay Maccabi all his Saints salry, but this seems to have been rejected - understandable considering it would have made the tiniest of dents in the figure requested.

Saints have wasted a lot of time on the Dayan deal only for nothing to come of it, and boss Gus MacPherson will have a tough job on his hands to bring in another striker before the transfer window shuts at the end of the month.

On the plus side, the deal to bring Argentine Franco Miranda to the club is still alive - although according to media reports this could also be complicated as it seems this would be a loan deal from a club in his homeland, rather than a free signing from Swedish side Helsingborg - it's all very confusing.

Meanwhile, Saints are also having a look at Arsenal defender Joe O'Cearuill. Some reports suggest it would be a loan deal, while others suggest he is actually a free agent. He is training with the squad along with former Manchester United midfielder Phil Mulryne - both of whom are hoping to convince MacPherson they are worthy of a contract.
