Compensation an issue for Lennon

Last updated : 05 June 2010 By Stuart Gillespie

This story is developing at a remarkable pace. Within the last 24 hours, Lennon has gone from also ran to being interviewed, being offered the job and now finding himself at a tug of war between Saints and Cowdenbeath, who he has led to two successive promotions.

Lennon is only contracted until September, and Cowdenbeath are in a pretty poor shape financially, so it will be interesting to see what they are after. I'd imagine most clubs will refuse the first offer they get for a player or manager, so it isn't much to worry about - yet. Let's just hope the board are willing tp pay up if they want their man, but the last few months suggest that may not be the case - and Jim Spence seems to have confirmed on Radio Scotland that we aren't willing to pay anything. On the plus side, they did pay Alloa compensation for Tom Hendrie in 1998 and we were far worse off back then, so let's hope they see sense.

It seems Kilmarnock are also interested in Lennon, so time is definitely very much of the essence.
