Campbell Bid Falls Through

The news comes from The Official Site and does not make good reading for Saints fans. Saints chairman Stewart Gilmour had announced at the annual dinner on Friday that a new player would be signed on Tuesday. It was believed to be a defender, and later revealed to be Mark Campbell.

This is the third time an announcement that we were signing someone has led to disappointment. In January, we announced that the following day we'd be signing an unnamed SPL striker Scott McLean. Whilst he still did sign, the deal had thought to be off thanks to Partick Thistle. In April, Gilmour said in the papers that we'd be making a "calibre" signing who was "highly sought after" and the fact we were signing someone like this would be a surprise. No offence to the guy, but Mark Crilly, who has previously played for Stirling, Ayr and Dumbarton, isn't what was expected! And now of course, this.

A tip for you Mr. Gilmour. Next time, keep it buttoned until the player has signed the contract.
