Broadfoot Avoids Jail Sentence

Last updated : 08 December 2004 By Stuart Gillespie
This is good news for Saints as Broadfoot has been in inspired form this season, and scored twice against Queen of the South a few weeks ago. He also signed a new two year contract recently.

Broadfoot was convicted of assault after repeatedly punching Tam Roney, which resulted in Roney having to have a metal plate put into his head. Kirk was also charged with assaulting the man's father, but that case collapsed.

As well as the 200 hours of community service, Broadfoot has been fined £750 and faces a 12 month probation period. His friend received similar punishment, with a slightly smaller fine.

On a personal note, If I was the victim I'd be furious with the leniency but this is neither the time nor the place to go into that. Let's hope Kirk has learned his lesson and doesn't do anything like this again.
