Basher's Bath Beaten

Last updated : 17 November 2002 By Stuart Gillespie
Team Bath, the football team of Bath University, were the first University side for over 120 years to compete in the first round of the FA Cup.

Basher should probably have scored inside 10 minutes when he missed a pretty good chance. Mansfield then took control, going in at the interval 3-0, as well as missing a penalty and having forced the Bath goalie into a good save from a header.

Mansfield increased their advantage in the second half to 4-0, before a stunning goal by Bath with 20 minutes left gave them a chance. A great header followed 10 minutes later, and Bath could easily have got the two goals needed to force a replay if luck had been on their side. In the final few minutes Basher even smacked the bar with a fierce header.

Well done Team Bath on getting that far, hopefully we'll see you again, with Basher, next year.
