McGowan was available after leaving Dundalk and it seemed manager Danny Lennon had indicated he would maybe get a contract in January if players leave. However, it has now emerged McGowan will not be getting a contract offer and is free to go elsewhere.
There's been no news of any more trialists at the club, although there's still plenty of time this week, while there doesn't seem to be any progress on the club's attempts to convince Bolton not to seek compensation for Aaron Mooy.
