Andy Hangs Up His Boots

Millen is the oldest player ever to play for St. Mirren and is also the oldest player in SPL history and the oldest outfield player since the premier division was formed in Scotland. He joined Saints from Clyde at the end of 2003 as player/assistant manager and has been a regular in the team ever since, despite his age.

It was thought when we won promotion to the SPL he would take a back seat, with phrases such as "only in emergencies" being bandied about. However, that never happened - despite him not appearing until October this season - and most of his performances weren't too bad. What probably forced him to retire was a poor performance in his final game in the cup against St. Johnstone when he was subbed early in the second half.

During his career, Andy has played for a number of other clubs, including St. Johnstone, Hibs and Kilmarnock. He'll still be registered as a player and feature for the reserves - passing on his experience - and if we get an injury crisis it's not inconceivable to think he'll be back playing competitive games.

All the best in your retirement Andy.
