Too Good To Be True?

Last time we were in Scotland's top league it took us until February, and the 26th game, to register league win number four and move onto 15 points. That's how much better we're doing this time around.

So much better, infact, that a run of three straight defeats (one of which was away to Celtic in the League Cup) was seen as crisis time, with a win over Hibs becoming must win as we had some tough games coming up. Quite why this was the case is a mystery to me, as every game in this league is tough.

If we keep up our current form then we'll be in the top six come the split in April. Possible? Yes. Realistic? Probably not. We're due a really bad run of form at some point (plus some worse injury problems than we currently have, whilst there are some teams who will improve enough over the next few months, both with results and new signings, to make it into the top half of the table.

The most pressing issue was, and remains, avoiding relegation. At the moment, it seems we have an excellent chance to achieve this. Lots of teams are involved (and will remain involved) at the bottom of the table, although as yet no one has fallen miles behind which is a pity.

Offer me 11th place in May and I'd bite your hand off. However, with the fantastic start we've had - one of our best ever starts to a season in the top league in Scotland - it's understandable that people are getting slightly carried away.

So, has the start been too good to be true? No. With another few wins we'll have passed Livingston's total from last season, and we're already well on our way to confounding some of the pre-season critics.

Let's just make sure we don't waste our great start and are still in the SPL for next season. I don't care where we finish, providing it's somewhere in the top 11 places!
