Scottish Cup Quarter Finals

A few weeks ago, most of you probably remember Roger Mitchell saying something along the lines of "If anyone thinks the Partick Thistle side can survive in the SPL then they have been smoking pot". I'm not sure if those were his exact words but if you hadn't heard of this before, you get the picture.

What Mitchell said seemed to me a clear dig at not just Thistle, not just the First Division, but most of the SFL. The idiot who came up with the brilliance of the 12 team SPl which splits in two, has decided to give us a great chance to take the mickey once again with this statement. If Partick Thistle aren't good enough for the SPL, why the heck have they beaten Dundee in this season's Scottish Cup? Why have Ayr United beaten Dunfermline, why have Inverness Caley beaten Hearts. Why did it take Rangers more than three halves of football to get a goal against Berwick, a team struggling at the foot of the SECOND division? How have Ayr, again, managed to get to the final of the league cup? How did Airdrie manage to beat Motherwell in the same competition? How could any of this happen when these teams clearly aren't good enough, going by Roger Mitchell's comments, for the SPL?

I hate Partick. I hate Ayr, in fact I hate all Scottish football teams with the obvious exception of St. Mirren. However, I also hate Roger Mitchell and the way his SPL think they get a say in everything. Mitchell was recently heard to say how the League Cup should merge with the English League Cup at some stage. It's not his, or the SPL's competition, so why should he have a say on how it is run and set up? Perhaps he feels by that stage it will only be SPL clubs left by this stage, though Ayr have once again proven him wrongly.

Anyway, let's have a look at how the SFL teams have a chance to get it right up Roger in the Scottish Cup tomorrow.

Unfortunately Partick don't have that opportunity to get their own revenge as they face fellow First Division side Inverness Caley. The good thing about this is it ensures a first division team will be in the semi finals of both cup competitions this season, which would be incredible when they aren't that good (allegedly). Ayr travel to Tannadice to take on Dundee United, where they have a great chance of causing an upset, while Forfar could do a Brechin as they take on Rangers. Can they hold on for a replay?

There will be at least one, and possibly two, first division sides in the semi finals, as well as the possibility of Forfar getting there. Not bad for teams which wouldn't be able to cope in the current SPL.
