Good To Be A Buddie?

A few years ago, being a Saints fan is not something you could boast about. Whilst you could take pride from the fact that you weren’t a sheep and didn’t support the Old Firm, you couldn’t exactly brag about our results or impressive league and cup form. Thanks to Gus MacPherson, that seems to have changed.

Second in the league last season and a cup run have now been followed up by victory in the Bell’s League Challenge Cup final and the club sitting top of the league with a game in hand. Finally, we can once again be proud of what our club is achieving on the pitch.

Off the pitch, plans continue for the new stadium. We’ve got planning permission and the Scottish Executive aren’t going to call an enquiry. Now all we need is someone to buy the stadium and we can finally get things going again.

As if that’s not enough, we’ve got a great set of players and some talented youngsters coming through. The under 19 team did incredibly well last season, finishing runners up in the league and Youth Cup, the first time the club had ever made the final. There were also playing a lot of reserve games and we finished second in that league as well. After a few barren years, we’ve got good youngsters again, Chris Smith being the best example at present.

It’s not just in the youth team we have good players though. Stewart Kean and John Sutton are scoring goals, whilst Simon Lappin and on loan midfielder Charlie Adam are playing brilliantly. Hugh Murray is in fantastic form, whilst the defence hasn’t conceded a league goal at Love Street for a long, long time.

Finally, the management team. Gus MacPherson and Andy Millen have got the club sorted, they’ve made us hard to beat and we’re scoring goals. The only worry with them is that an SPL club will steal them.

Good to be a Buddie? At the moment, it sure is.
