Name: Chris Smith
Current Club: Dunfermline Athletic
Position: Goalkeeper
Saints Career: Chris came through the club's youth system and made his debut towards the end of the 2004/05 season. Injury the following year saw him play a large part of the first half of the campaign, during which he was a hero in a League Challenge Cup penalty shoot out win over Morton. We won the trophy with him in goals, but the arrival of Tony Bullock saw him dropped - although he did replace him as a sub the day we won the league! He started our first year in the SPL in goals but some mistakes saw him dropped. However, Bullock was ditched that january and he reclaimed his place for more than a year, before missing out due to injury. 2008/09 saw him start behind Mark Howard before he got a chance two thirds of the way through the season. A shocking 7-0 defeat to Celtic was followed up with a fine performance in a Scottish Cup win over the same team a week later. A serious injury then ruled him out until December, when he was loaned to Dunfermline to get fitness - and broke his foot! Having recovered, he rejoined them on loan. A decent keeper, but a bit too error prone.
Post Saints Career: With new boss Danny Lennon looking to cut a keeper in 2010, it was no surprise Smudger was allowed to join the Pars permanently. The pars won promotion that season but the arrival of Paul Gallacher from Saints saw him benched again for th SPL. An injury to Gallacher before the end of the year saw Smith recalled, but a serious of shocking injuries saw him dropped in favour of loan keeper Iain Turner.
