Hugh came through the Saints youth system ans broke into the side in about 1996 or 1997. He established himself in 1997/98 and in May 1998 scored a screamer against Stirling that secured the club's first division status - and possibly very existence. The next season his form dipped, but it picked up again the following season as we swashbuckled our way to the first division title. He scored five goals along the way, including a keepy-uppy effort against Clydebank. Struggled in the SPL but recovered again back in the first division. In 2002 he turned down a new contract and tried his luck in England, but after failing to win a deal he came back to Love Street - and has been here ever since. In 2005/06 he won both the first division and League Challenge Cup, meaning he became the first player to win three trophies with the Buddies. Scored another crucial goal in may 2007 as we battled for relegation, but didn't bag another until late 2009 - and scored a double against Motherwell! He also played in that season's League Cup Final, although had to be subbed to avoid being sent off. Considering what happened, that might not have been the best idea... Has been written off numerous times, most recently at the start of 2011 when Danny Lennon tried to offload him to Dunfermline, but has bounced back every time. A tough tackling midfield, a fans favourite, a player who knows how to fall over and, most importantly, a club legend. In May 2011 he broke the all-time Saints appearance record held by Tony Fitzpatrick - who gave him his debut - when he played against Hamilton. Unfortunately, he lasted just 10 minutes before getting himself injured while making a typical Shuggy tackle - and that injury saw him ruled out for the first half of the 2011/12 season. Made his comeback against Rangers and his arrival from the bench played a key part in seeing the game out.
