January Rumour Mill Issue 1

Last updated : 04 April 2012 By Stuart Gillespie

The idea of the Rumour Mill is to list details of rumours that have appeared on the web, in the newspapers or somewhere else regarding players coming to Saints or leaving for a new club. If a player arrives or leaves without a rumour on the web, he won't be mentioned in the Rumour Mill. If a rumour is confirmed as being true or false, then news of this will be posted in the next edition. This edition will include details of rumours from the summer that were neither denied nor confirmed before the last summer issue.

IN

Iain Anderson: Saints have been linked with several
Dundee players in the past few weeks, one of them being midfielder Iain Anderson. Quite why we need yet another left sided midfielder when we already have Simon Lappin, Charlie Adam and mark Corcoran I don't know. With Alan Kernaghan looking to offload players at DensPark as he rebuilds the squad, there is a chance this could happen.

Kenny Arthur: Saints need a new goalkeeper with Craig Hinchcliffe out for the season, and one they have been linked with is Partick Thistle's Kenny Arthur. The former Scotland future squad member is out of favour at Firhill and may welcome bench warming for a first division side, however Saints boss Gus MacPherson has denied being interested, although he has done this before and we've still signed the player.

Barry John Corr: Another keeper Saints have been linked with is Stranraer's Barry John Corr. He has been in good form for the first division side this season, but a fee would probably be required for his services and Stranraer claim they've already rejected an approach from Saints.

Garry Brady: Another
Dundee player Saints are after is midfielder Garry Brady, who would be the ideal replacement for the ageing Andy Millen and Mark Reilly. However, Brady has been a regular for the Dark Blues this season and they would probably be looking for a decent sized transfer fee.

John Hillcoat: Yet another keeper rumoured to be on his way to
Love Street is John Hillcoat. The former Saints keeper is bench warming at Brechin and may wish to come to Love Street. He’d also be cheap, however Brechin need a backup keeper themselves so might hold on to him.

Allan Jenkins: Stranraer player Allan Jenkins is being linked with a move to several clubs, one of them being Saints. However, considering a few SPL clubs are after him, he probably won't be coming here and will step up a league in January, or he could simply stay put at
StairPark.

Steven McGarry: Former Saints player Steven McGarry has been linked with a return to
Love Streetby several people.

John Rankin: Another midfielder, this time
RossCounty's John Rankin. Saints have already had a cash offer refused for County's star player, who has nine goals to his name this season. The Staggies will probably want a lot more for him than Saints can offer, although SMISA may step in to make the transfer happen.

Barry Smith: Yet another midfielder from the struggling
Dundee side that has been linked with a move to Paisley is Barry Smith. Smith has been at DensPark for years and may be extremely reluctant to leave, although he is from Paisley. he has been a regular for Dundee this season and they may not be too keen to see him go either.

Stevie Thompson: Perhaps the silliest rumour to appear for quite some time is that Saints will be signing Rangers striker Stevie Thompson loan. OK, he is a St. Mirren fan, but apart from that the story is a load of rubbish. We couldn't afford him and he won't want to drop down to the first division.

OUT

Kirk Broadfoot:
A regular feature in the Rumour Mill is a story linking Kirk Broadfoot with a move away from
Love Street. Celtic and Hibs are the two clubs supposedly after him this time.

Mark Corcoran: Despite scoring the winning goal against Brechin yesterday, Mark Corcoran may be on his way out of
Love Street. He is unhappy about being left on the bench for most games (although what player isn't) and may decide to move somewhere else to get first team football.

CONFIRMED

Mixu Paatelainen:
At the time of the last Rumour Mill, there were stories linking Mixu Paatelainen with a move away from Saints. They were right, as he became manager of third division side Cowdenbeath.

John Sutton: Over the summer, John Sutton was being linked with moves to several clubs, including Saints and Morton. Thankfully he saw the light and ended up at
Love Street.

NOT HAPPENING

James Grady:
Despite being in signing talks with Saints, pint sized striker James Grady opted for big spending
Gretna instead.

Chris Iwelumo: Former Saints player Chris Iwelumo was being linked with a return to
Love Street in the summer, however it was never likely to happen and he opted for Colchester United instead.

Andy McLaren: Former Dundee United man Andy McLaren was linked with a summer move to
Love Street, however that was probably to wind up the Morton fans and he eventually ended up at Cappielow.

Armand One: Former Partick Thistle striker Armand One did come to
Love Street for a trial in the summer however was useless and wasn't signed.

That's all for this issue, there will no doubt be a few more over the next month as the transfer window gets into full swing.
