St. Mirren Millennium Champions

Previously (to Monday, 8th February 2010):

Millennium Champions: Still top - just

Fri 05 Feb
After an encouraging draw against SPL basement boys Aberdeen in the Scottish Cup, spirits were high ahead of a game against Livingston at Love Street. It wasn't to last.

Millennium Champions: Brockville curse strikes again

Fri 22 Jan
When Saints are on a dodgy run of form, the last place you wanted was a trip to bogey ground Brockville. Sadly, that's what happened in January 2000 and the inevitable defeat followed.

Millennium Champions: Junior does it again

Fri 08 Jan
It's fair to say Junior Mendes likes scoring against Airdrie. He once scored a hat-trick against them and before this game his only goal of the season had been scored against the Diamonds. By the end of it he'd taken his tally to three!

Millennium Champions: Happy New Millennium

Sun 03 Jan
To celebrate the start of a new millennium, Saints decided to invite the neighbours round for some fun at Love Street. Sadly, not for the first time, Paul Hartley managed to ruin the mood of most Buddies.

Millennium Champions: A rare defeat

Fri 18 Dec
As the second round of fixtures began, we suffered a feeling we hadn't had to endure for other two months as our last game of the year against Ayr United saw us end up with nothing.

Millennium Champions: End of the run

Fri 11 Dec
It had to happen sooner or later. After eight games and nearly two months of victories, a day where we didn't take all three points was surely just around the corner. Eventually, it was Inverness Caley who halted us with a draw.

Millennium Champions: Eight in a row

Fri 04 Dec
Saints entered new ground with this narrow win over title challengers Falkirk as the victory was our eighth league success on the trot - a new club record.

Millennium Champions: On we go

Fri 27 Nov
Another Saturday, another win as the Saints juggernaut continued on a seemingly unstoppable route to the promised land of the SPL. However, we had keeper Ludovic Roy to thank for a fine second half display in goal at Livingston.

Millennium Champions: Saints stutter to victory

Fri 20 Nov
It doesn't matter what form or division Saints are in, we have nearly always struggled when we are favourites to win a match. So it proved when we took on Clydebank at Love Street.

Millennium Champions: Friday night fun

Thu 12 Nov
As I've grown older, I've learnt to appreciate and enjoy a good Friday night out in a variety of places. However, I can safely say I've only had one such night in Airdrie - and it was all thanks to Saints.

Millennium Champions: Revenge is sweet

Fri 06 Nov
Making up for past injustices was quickly becoming a habit for Tom Hendrie's swashbuckling team. After writing wrongs against Raith Rovers and Airdrie, it was time for Morton to get their comeuppance.

Millennium Champions: Bye bye Goofy

Fri 30 Oct
Going into this game against Dunfermline we were a few points ahead of the Pars at the top of the league. Despite that, their manager Dick Campbell seemed to think his side was far superior to ours. We soon showed him.

Millennium Champions: Three and easy

Fri 23 Oct
We were now beginning to get into our stride. After the late win over Raith Rovers the previous week, this was far more straightforward, with the Mark Yardley and Barry Lavety goal machine back to its best.

Millennium Champions: Captain Tache to the rescue

Fri 16 Oct
Around a year before this game against Raith Rovers, Tommy Turner sneaked off the Love Street pitch having been substituted. On his way, he had an altercation with one of the Saints fans and was shunted out on loan. This was his redemption.

Millennium Champions: Paying the penalty

Fri 02 Oct
A draw and a defeat were hardly the ideal way to head into the international break, and it could have been so much better. Had Tom Brown not missed a late penalty, we'd have beaten Livingston on their first trip to Love Street.

Millennium Champions: The first defeat

Fri 25 Sep
This result was no doubt music to the ears of the "bubble will burst" brigade who said we wouldn't last long at the top. God knows why as our record during Brockville's last 25 years or so was abysmal and the title season proved no exception.

Millennium Champions: Double Barry shotgun

Fri 18 Sep
The Renfrewshire derby may not be that famous in Scotland, let alone further afield, but it is arguably one of the country's top matches between local sides - and it's always good when you win it.

Millennium Champions: The first real test

Fri 11 Sep
This was where it was all meant to start going wrong. A trip to recently relegated Dunfermline would prove we weren't up to the fight. Instead, we absolutely destroyed them but somehow only left with a point.

Millennium Champions: Five star revenge

Fri 04 Sep
Less than a year before this game, Airdrie came to Love Street and rattled five past us, bringing to an end Tony Fitzpatrick's second spell in charge of the club. With our high scoring ways, it was time for payback.

Millennium Champions: Saints' Sunday service

Sat 29 Aug
A Saturday in Greenock is bad enough, but a Sunday? Good god. But that's we had to put up with in 1999 thanks to Clydebank sharing Cappielow with our old chums at Morton.

Millennium Champions: Why we hate Tokely

Fri 21 Aug
It's a shame Inverness Caley Thistle are no longer an SPL club, for the following article would be a handy guide for those folk wondering why Saints fans boo Ross Tokely. Read on if you still don't know the reason.

Millennium Champions: Basher's back for revenge

Fri 14 Aug
Saints' stay in the first division started off with a hammering by Raith Rovers at Starks Park in 1992. In the squad that day was Barry Lavety. Now back on loan from Hibs, the striker was looking for payback.

Millennium Champions: From tiny acorns...

Fri 07 Aug
Mirren Mad's series looking back at the fabulous 1999/2000 season kicks off against Ayr. Who'd have thought the team that struggled to score goals against ten men would go on to become one of the highest scoring sides in Europe?

Millennium Champions relived

Thu 30 Jul
It was the most exciting season in St. Mirren's history in over 20 years, filled with goals, excitement and drama. Now get ready to experience the Millennium Champions campaign all over again.
